After several months of discussions with Black planners in response to the June 12th Open Letter, we are happy to see that the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is taking a leadership role and is forming an Anti-Black Racism in Planning Task Force. A big thanks to those of you who signed the Open Letter, to those who have been advocating on these issues for years and to SO many Black planners who gave up countless hours over the summer to engage with OPPI, especially to the incredible people I've gotten to know through the newly formed Black Planners and Urbanists Association (emerged from the Black Planning Project) - apologies for the Friday meetings...community love.
OPPI is now seeking volunteers for its Anti-Black Racism in Planning Task Force. If you're interested in addressing anti-Black racism in planning throughout Ontario and to provide an example of how we can do this work across this country, please apply.
Please put your names forward by completing OPPI pre-volunteer survey by October 23. OPPI seeks a diversity of perspectives and experiences.
More information on the Task Force, including its Terms of Reference, can be viewed on OPPI's website: http://ow.ly/Cm0x50BN53k
